How I Finish Wire and Resin Bird Suncatchers for a Beautiful Shine

If you’ve ever wondered how to get that beautiful glossy finish on resin crafts, this is one of my favourite parts of the process.

In this project, I’m adding the final touches to one of my wire and resin bird suncatchers – bringing it life with shine, colour, and detail.

Why the Finishing Stage Matters

The finishing stage is what really makes a handmade piece stand out. Without it, resin can sometimes look dull or uneven – but with the right technique, you get that lovely glass-like shine. Its also the moment where all your hard work comes together.

Tools and Materials I Use

These are the main tools and materials I use to get this finish. I’ve linked them here incase you would like to try them yourself.

My Simple Finishing Tips

  • Use good quality resin
  • Apply resin in thin layers for the best shine
  • Cure properly under a UV lamp
  • Don’t rush the process – this is where the magic happens
  • Check for missed spots before the final curing

The Finished Piece

This is the moment I love the most – seeing the piece come together and catch the light beautifully.

Each one is different, which is what makes handsome pieces so special.
