If your just starting out on your journey of crafting with resin, and thinking of using open back bezels it can be bit overwhelming all the different materials and tools available, and can leave you feeling very confused as to what you actually intend too make and what do you actually need.
First off, you do not need to buy everything you see, secondly only buy what you can really afford, look out for bargains and special offers there are always some around – I do try and post some when I see them on my face book page (same name ‘Art and Gifts by Maz’) Now there is also a thin line between price and quality and if you are intending on selling your creative makes, well – customers are going to want quality, so just give that some thought too when choosing what to buy – I only give links to items I personally use, so I can vouch for their reliability and quality- you can see these on my tools and materials page here
OK lets get started then – you have decided to use open back bezels, I like working with these, so many different shapes, sizes and colours to choose from. You don’t have to worry about drilling holes etc just pour your resin – cure – place on a chain or cord ready to go !
Here is a short video where I show you how to begin using open back bezels … as always think safety first and ensure you are working in a safe environment with appropriate safety equipment.
So sorry my video ran out – my mistake I was using a voice over didn’t realise just how close to the end I was but you can see what I meant about using the two sticks it allows you to transfer all your bezels safely to your UV lamp for full curing, it really is a very useful tip.
The follow up video part two will be in my next post
Useful Tips:
- Two sticks on your resin tape
- Good quality resin tape – I have heard of people using parcel tape etc, personally I would always use proper resin tape for best results.
- Keep old broken bits of jewellery, or pieces you no longer wear, ask family and friends for theirs, it saves spending lots of money on embellishments – and we all love to upcycle where we can.
- I do suggest investing in a UV torch, its great for a quick blast to set the resin in place before moving it to your lamp I use this one and I would be lost without it now check it out for yourself here on Amazon
Using Old Jewellery no Longer Worn
You could see from my video the difference made to the Forget-me-not flowers by simply adding just two tiny vintage pearls – now you can imagine just how many pieces of jewellery you could make using just one discarded necklace.

Part Two of Using Open Back Bezels will be coming very soon – please keep a look out for it, as there is an interesting development with in it.
