I often see crafters asking on different social media sites How to use a deburring tool, so I am going to show you exactly how here in this blog with a short video tutorial.

It really frustrates me when I hear crafters saying things such as “I just couldn’t work out how to use it – so I threw it out”
A deburring tool is great for easily taking of sharp edges from your UV resin piece. It gently shaves the resin away, leaving a nice smooth-to-touch surface.
Once you have mastered the technique you will find it so satisfying to do, I find it quite therapeutic so much so I have to ensure I don’t over do it!

In this video you see how the blade can swivel and that some crafters like working with a swivel blade, I personally like the blade in a fixed position that seems to work best for me, but it is easy to adjust to find a way that you are most comfortable with.
Its when you take your resin piece out of a mould that you often see that sharp edge – its where the resin has sunk down a little as it cures leaving that slightly raised edge all around, sometimes if you are doming you will not need to use the deburring tool and that edge can be quite useful stopping your resin from running over – but if you are not doming or pouring a top layer then I suggest removing the sharp edge with a deburring tool.
From what I hear thou it is the swivel that seems to be turning crafters away from this wonderfully useful tool, which is a great shame – I want to show everyone how to use a deburring tool and hope every crafter will have one of these within their tool box ready to use to smooth those sharp edges after all we as caring crafters don’t want our customers, friends and family hurting themselves on sharp resin edges, that could be so easily smoothed with a deburring tool.
